Carol Lam is a former federal prosecutor who served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California from 2002 to 2007. She was the first Asian American woman to hold this position. During her tenure, Lam focused on prosecuting cases involving public corruption, terrorism, drug trafficking, and white-collar crime.
Lam was known for her successful prosecutions of high-profile cases, including the convictions of former Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham and members of a Mexican drug cartel. In 2007, Lam was controversially dismissed from her position by the Bush administration, which sparked allegations of political interference in the justice system.
After leaving her role as U.S. Attorney, Lam went on to work as a private attorney and served on various advisory boards and commissions. She has also been involved in advocating for criminal justice reform and women's empowerment. Lam is considered a trailblazer in the legal profession and a role model for aspiring prosecutors.
